Educator resources and supports for planning and preparing for a successful school trip to an Ontario snow resort.

Schools on Snow – Ontario can provide your school community an abundance of outdoor winter activities such as: Alpine Skiing, Snowboarding, Cross-Country Skiing and Snowshoeing. Each Schools on Snow – Ontario resort is led by experienced staff and instructors who want to ensure that your students have the opportunity to explore the outdoor winter season safely, while having fun. As you start planning your field trip, we invite you to review some Tips & Tricks that will help you plan and prepare for a successful school trip experience.

  • Learning outdoors provides all kinds of exciting opportunities to support the teaching of curriculum. We invite you to check out the Schools on Snow – Ontario Lesson Plans page. Here you will find activities for primary, junior, intermediate and secondary divisions linked to the following:
    • Language Curriculum
    • Health & Physical Education Curriculum
    • Cross-Curricular connections to Social Studies/Geography, Science & Technology
  • Being outside provides the opportunity to support learning outcomes with real life examples, creating deeper connections to school subjects. Check out the recommended curated Schools on Snow resources and supports for educators.

 

  • You’ve booked your Schools on Snow experience – great! While every Schools on Snow resort is unique, here is what you can expect during your day. Share this with the school staff, students and their families so everyone is in the know:
    • Your bus will be met by a representative from the Schools on Snow resort.
    • Students will be greeted and guided to a dedicated area where they can store their belongings for the day.
    • Students will be fitted for equipment by trained rental staff.
    • Students will be guided to the beginner centre where instructor/student ratios will be maintained.
    • lessons with a qualified instructor, who will guide the student through the basics of the activity.
    • Schools will be responsible to be aware of appropriate supervision levels for the activity the students are participating in. Learn more here, Ontario Physical Activity Safety Standards in Education.
    • Lunch and warm-up breaks will occur in a designated area. Some resorts include lunch for Schools on Snow participants.
    • You will board your bus at the end of the day and head home.
